This is a smol floof bean, or a wooly bear caterpillar. This type of floof bean is kind of common, and you can see them crawling around almost everywhere in the USA. They can eat a variety of plants, from grass to nettles, and to dandelions to violets. Their floof is not usually harmful, as it cannot inject venom, but they can cause dermatitis in some people. Be careful!
These caterpillars do not grow up to be butterflies, but they grow up to be Isabella Tiger Moths. I have seen a few of these (and one even landed on my shirt once), but until now I have not been able to identify them, and I never thought that they would be the adult versions of smol floof beans! Here in the picture you will see I got it to crawl on a stick so that I could move it onto a safe place away from stepping feet and rolling bicycles. While moving it, it became surprised and jumped off, moving into it's defensive position, a curled up cinnamon roll. Haha! I managed to kind of gently roll it away from the path, but it was still spooked, so it stayed as a roll for quite a while. 'Til next post! ( 0w0) (photo of moth taken by Wikipedia)

Sorry guys, no picture today... (My camera had no battery, so thanks to Pixabay, where I got this picture! ) I just came to tell you that I fed a cricket!!
It was a little, young, scrawny cricket that was chillin' out in a corner. He was yellow-gray, like ripe wheat, but with grey on his back. I watched him for a while, squeeing over his cuteness. Bolting to the computer, I looked up what crickets could eat. They can eat anything that isn't poisonous and covered with preservatives and pesticides. Remembering we have grapes in the fridge, I washed one very carefully, and pulled out a little piece. (about a centimeter wide) I sneaked back over to the corner, and the cricket was still there. Dropping the piece of grape near it, I sat back down to the computer, watching science videos. After a bit, I returned, and guess what? The cricket ate half, and was still at it! It got spooked by my sudden squeeing and walked away from me. I am very happy that I fed such a cute little creature, and I will let him and his friends stay for the winter. (While writing this, I got up and noticed that he was making his way down the hallway.) Have a nice, cozy Autumn everyone, and stay warm! :) Pesky invasive species... They florped their way into North America and started chowing down on it's native plants... Well, here are some I found here in Ohio! (Sadly, we can't ship them back to japan. -n-) The first two are the same one! I found her burning up on the hot sidewalk and moved her onto a cool shady plant, which she and her friends relentlessly devoured... She was very clingy, I had to hold her by the shell and place her on the plant as she wanted to rest on me instead. I managed to get her on, and took that photo. So, that's my post! :D (read the captions on the slideshow!) See you on my next photography adventure!
Smol cattapilla eteng grash. o3o Actually, it's a small caterpillar eating grass. I rarely see caterpillars eating grass, this is actually my first one! :D If you know the species of this lil' guy, please let me know! thanks for reading!
Itty bitty wittle Acorn-Eyes was sitting on the sidewalk resting. She was so cute, I had to take a photo! I chose to name her Acorn-Eyes because her eyes look like acorns! sorry for the short post, I have so many more posts to post! See you on the next one! ...and the next one.............. and the one after that.
a little fly sitting on a little dandilion in a little garden next to a little water drainage!7/4/2017 Aww, look at this little fly! He's sitting on a little dandelion in a little garden next to a little water drainage! He or she is a Green Bottle Fly, stronger fliers than house flies. They are known to eat decaying plant and animal matter, even other animals fecal matter, probably to get those extra undigested nutrients. Because of that, they are considered very dirty, and unless they take baths in raindrops, they probably are. I guess they eat nectar too. So that's my post! :D Cya!
Ermehgerd! I just caught a photo of a damselfly! AND IT'S A BIG ONE! The other damselflies here are much smaller... with see-through wings. They fly by flapping their wings VERY fast! But this one, kinda flies like a butterfly. I saw two of them. There was this one, and another one, which flew by into thicker grass. And oh my goodness, I was happy! I did some research, and it seems it is called an 'ebony jewelwing' hm... their bodies are more like jewels, but their wings are like tar. Well, this post is getting long. Byyeee!
They grow up so fast...
Puny lady pupa you poor tiny thing. How will you ever move? However will you grow? I don't know, but you will be a ladybug flying through the glorious blue sky. Puny lady pupa you still stationary thing how will you emerge? will you ever break free? I don't know but you will be a ladybug flying through the glorious blue sky. Just a little ladybug larvae on a bush outside of my house. Probably looking for some aphids to munch on. Squirmin' and turnin'. that's how she goes. :) Lil' Lady Larvae (by Iris) Lil' lady larvae, squirmin' up a branch, looking for the aphids that are eating up the ranch! Lil' lady larvae, nomming on that bug the little green aphid to the farm, it is a thug. Lil' lady larvae, we thank you very much maybe when you grow up you'll have a larger lunch! This, my friends, is a firebrat! This snazzy breed of silverfish needs all the nice things it can find. Dog food, bread, protein and carbs, even book bindings! They are needy and needs heat and humidity. This lil' guy wasn't put outside, as I thought he was just an earwig. But nope-de-derp-herp! This was a firebrat! Probably munching on our favorite books by now, spoiling our food and staining our nice shirts. Bleh. -w-' They don't bite or sting, unlike their name suggests. But watch out for them, they are health hazards, contaminating food. Also, keep your books away from these punks, they'll eat it. They also stain clothing. -_- Well... I guess that's life! ^w^'
A couple weeks ago, I found a honeybee just resting on a dandelion. It must have been very tired from flying around gathering nectar and took a rest. I think it's pretty cute! Until next post!
When I was walking to the Blue Park with my mom, we stumbled near the river, and there were so many gallinippers! I should have been more careful observing them, as I could have get bitten. Some people say that a gallinipper bite is like getting stabbed! D: ...Huh.... imagine a bunch of gallinippers with tiny knives stabbing you. *Iris is disturbed by her own thought* ..Uh... See you on my next photography adventure!
A bunch of ants enjoying a nice meal of Fried Chicken!
I was at the 'blue park', as I like to call it, and my mom and I found a bunch of ants eating a large piece of fried chicken! Someone must have been eating fried chicken and dropped a piece, and the ants found it before the dogs did! They look quite pleased and will surely share some with their friends ant family. 'Until next post! :) A little stinkbug was on the screen door of my apartment, and I just HAD to take a picture! I got some good shots of him, but all but one were blurry. He kept climbing and climbing.... but he soon met his fate in the web of a hungry little spider... Rest in peace little guy. >o< <IT'S THE CIRCLE OF LIIIIIIIFE!!!) ...soooooo...... Kasper... ISN'T a katydid..... o_o I thought he was..... But he was just a very green grasshopper with a mildly arched back. ....I've only handled dark green and brown and tabby grasshoppers... all with straight backs...
I looked at pictures of katydids.... and they aren't even close to grasshoppers, ._. (AARGH I'M AS UN-SMART AS A PILLBUG (no offense to pillbugs). Katydids have skinny legs, very arched back, wings, short abdomen & more leaflike than grasshoppers. *facepalms repeatedly* Sorry guys.... ( katydid? More like katyDIDN'T! Heh heh heh...) Hi! This is my first blog post on photography!! This is a picture of Kasper the katydid! ...or grasshopper....I think he's a katydid.....yeah he's a katydid. Look at the arched back; grasshoppers have straight backs. Oh, anyways, here's how I found this jumpy lil' feller! I was rolling down a not at all steep hill, and stopped to take a breath. Then, just by mere lucky amazing chance, this lil' guy was staring right at me! "Mom!! Look, it's a grasshopper- no, a katydid!!! The first katydid I've handled!" I scooped up the leaf green katydid, and he was really jumpy! He settled down on my hand for 3 seconds, then.... HOP! HOP! Off he went into the grass. I picked him up again and I got to get a photo of him near my face, it's in my profile picture! (mom took the photo on that one) But after I breathed out and sighed, HOP! HOP! HOPPITY- BACKFLIP!!! He did a backflip and landed right near my leg! (I cropped out my leg because it was covered in dirt from rolling down the hill) I took quite a few photos of him because he's so kawaii (that means cute in Japanese)! Also, It's my first time handling a katydid! (Their kinda like jumpier and tinier grasshoppers. They also like to be in bushes and look like leaves as camo) Well, that's my first post! Bye everyone! Mom holding Kasper. Kasper hiding in the grass. Can you see him?
